Always dreamt of having a horse of your own? Learn to Horse makes that dream a reality — even if just for a half day. This half-day experience lets you step into the role of a horse owner, with hands-on activities in horse care, horsemanship, and riding.
With guidance from our friendly instructors, you will:
- Be paired with your very own horse for the program.
- Learn to feed, groom, and care for your horse.
- Discover the basics of horsemanship and building a trusted relationship.
Take part in an incorporated riding lesson and guided ride, tailored to your level. We run both adults and children's groups. Minimum age of 7.
Whether you’re curious about horse ownership, reconnecting with animals, or simply looking for a unique outdoor adventure, Learn to Horse is a fun and memorable way to experience life with horses.
Session Times: Sundays 9am-1pm & 12:30pm-4:30pm / with more opportunities over the school holidays as well
Program for the half day
- General safety around horses
- Fitting helmets
- Build relationship, trust and consent with your horse
- Learn how to use 2 types of halters
- Catch your own horse
- Things to look out for on your horse and in paddocks
- Leading your horse
- Tying a quick release knot
- Types of gear
- Groom and tack your own horse
- Watering and feeding
- Riding lesson and trail ride
- Untack and sponge down
- Rugging/unrugging (in winter periods)
- Releasing horses in the paddock
THINGS TO NOTE:
1. Wear long pants and covered shoes such as runners/sneakers or boots. Inappropriate clothing will result in forfeit of the session.
2. Bring your own refreshments, snacks and drinks. Don't forget sunscreen and a hat during the hot days and waterproof and warm clothing during the cold ones!
3. We can provide helmets (limited sizes available). Wearing a current Australian standard safety horse riding helmet is compulsory. If you require a customised helmet for any reason, you will need to advise Woodlands if anything can be arranged, otherwise you will have to provide this yourself. Not being able to wearing a helmet will result in forfeit of the session.
4. Arrival time is 15 minutes prior to session time for check-in to ensure all documents have been signed. Latecomers of more than 15 minutes will result in forfeit of the session.
5. Instructors will take photos and/or videos and can be downloaded via a link emailed to you automatically after each session within 48 hours.

**IMPORTANT: For bookings with less than a day notice or same day bookings, please call ahead to confirm availability (Office Hours: Wednesday-Sunday 8.30am-5.00pm). No guarantee of availability if no advance bookings have been made, as bookings normally require more than 24 hours notice so that we can arrange suitable horses and sufficient staffing. Public holiday surcharges apply.
